Naomi Sandoval Venus Index Open Winner 2012

I don’t know why it feels awkward to admit that I’m proud of myself. But I am. I haven’t come right out and bragged that I took 3rd in the latest Venus Index Open Level II contest. It’s a pretty big deal for me; this is the culmination of a year’s worth of work and focus.

Just to back up a little, this contest was by invitation only for former winners of the Venus Index Open Level I, which I won a year ago.

Since this was the first time there was a Open Level II contest, none of us were sure exactly what the winning look would be. So we all did our best and pleased ourselves!

My plan was to increase my shoulder measurement but due to injuries, I lost a lot of time not being able to lift full strength on many lifts that involve shoulders. Once I finally got that figured out, thanks to a wonderful trainer at my gym who helped me understand that I needed to tuck my pelvis under on overhead lifts, I was able to go full strength. But by then, it was already too late. I did spend 3 months doing Cluster Cycles and made great strength improvements but they did not translate to any increase in my shoulder measurement. I am pleased to have kept most of the hard earned strength gains from this program and eager to revisit it again later this year!

But alas, I needed to cut a bit to get photo ready so I was not able to make any further shoulder progress even after a whole year.

I am hugely pleased and amazed to report that even when I got to photo ready, I didn’t feel weak and exhausted like I did a year ago. My body is really growing and improving all the time! I had no idea this was even possible at this stage of the game. I look forward to continuing with my recomposition over the next few¬†years. This stage may be a slog but it’s worth it.
